(NASDAQ: PAAS) (TSX: PAAS) (" Pan American " or the " Company ") and Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX: YRI; NYSE: AUY; LSE: AUY) (" Yamana ") are pleased to announce that Pan American has completed its previously announced acquisition of all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Yamana (" Yamana Shares "), following the sale by Yamana of its Canadian assets, including certain subsidiaries and partnerships which hold Yamana’s interests in the Canadian Malartic mine, to Agnico Eagle Mines Limited (" Agnico Eagle "), by way of a plan of arrangement (the " Arrangement ") under the Canada Business Corporations Act "This acquisition is transformative for Pan American, significantly increasing the scale of our operations in Latin America where we have been operating for nearly three decades," said Michael Steinmann, President and Chief Executive Officer of Pan American. "We expect a material increase in our production of silver and gold, while we continue to provide a preferred way to invest in silver through large silver mineral reserves and growth opportunities, further enhanced by the increase in our market capitalization and trading liquidity. The acquisition is firmly aligned with our strategy of creating value by pursuing attractive growth opportunities, improving operating margins and extending mine life." The Arrangement adds four producing mines to Pan American's portfolio: the Jacobina mining complex in Brazil, the El Peñón and Minera Florida mines in Chile, and the Cerro Moro mine in Argentina. It also adds the MARA development project in Argentina. Pan American plans to provide a 2023 operating outlook inclusive of the Latin American assets acquired through the Arrangement, as well as a consolidated forecast for annual general and administrative, exploration and project development costs, in the mid-second quarter of 2023. Transaction consideration Pursuant to the Arrangement, Yamana shareholders received, in respect of each Yamana Share held, US$1.0406 in cash paid by Agnico Eagle, 0.0376 of a common share of Agnico Eagle (each whole share, an " Agnico Eagle Share ") and 0.1598 of a common share of Pan American (each whole share, a " Pan American Share "). In aggregate, Yamana shareholders received US$1,001,302,560 in cash, 36,177,931 Agnico Eagle Shares and 153,758,280 Pan American Shares pursuant to the Arrangement. Upon closing of the Arrangement, existing Pan American shareholders own approximately 58% of the Pan American Shares and former Yamana Shareholders own approximately 42% of the Pan American Shares. Full details of the Arrangement and certain other matters are set out in the management information circular of Pan American dated December 20, 2022, which can be found under Pan American’s profile on SEDAR at www.sedar.com and EDGAR at www.sec.gov. Delisting of Yamana Shares The Yamana Shares are expected to be delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange as of the closing of the market on April 3, 2023, and from the New York Stock Exchange as of the opening of the market on April 3, 2023. The depositary interests of Yamana were suspended from trading on the London Stock Exchange as of the opening of the market on March 27, 2023, and are expected to be formally delisted from the London Stock Exchange and cancelled from the UK Financial Conduct Authority’s Official List as of the opening of the market on April 3, 2023. Pan American is in the process of applying for Yamana to cease to be a reporting issuer under applicable Canadian securities laws and to otherwise terminate Yamana’s public reporting requirements. Pan American's revolving credit facility and establishment of term credit facility Pan American has further amended and restated its existing US$500 million sustainability-linked credit agreement (the " Existing Credit Facility "), which has been increased to US$750 million. In addition, a delayed-draw term loan facility in the amount of US$500 million has been established, which will be permanently cancelled and reduced to zero if it is not drawn within 60 days of today’s date. Pan American’s new amended and restated sustainability-linked credit facility (the " Amended Revolving Credit Facility ") is led by BMO Capital Markets, The Bank of Nova Scotia and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce as Joint Lead Arrangers and Joint Bookrunners, and Bank of Montreal, as administrative agent. As at March, 31 2023, Pan American had drawn US$325 million under the Amended Revolving Credit Facility, which was used to repay the US$103 million drawn on the Existing Credit Facility, fund closing costs associated with the Arrangement and to repay, in full, and cancel Yamana's revolving credit facility, under which US$205 million had been drawn. Board of Director Changes In connection with the Arrangement, Pan American has identified three members of the former board of directors of Yamana who will be nominated for election to the board of directors of Pan American (the " Pan American Board ") at the upcoming annual general and special meeting of Pan American (the " Meeting "), being John Begeman, Alexander Davidson, and Kimberly Keating. In addition, Michael Carroll will not be standing for re-election at the Meeting, and Chantal Gosselin will be nominated for election at the Meeting. The Meeting is expected to occur on May 10, 2023. What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
I primarily want to use it to train Ai models and use blender but I would also like it to be able to run games. The games that I would be running would be FPS, civilization and mount & blade
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
1.5K
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Next week
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Only the pc
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
US, Illinois. I will be purchasing in Chicago and yes I have access to a Microcenter location.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
I will be buying everything for the first time, but other than the computer itself the other parts don't matter too much.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
I don't think so
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
I believe that Nvidia is the best choice for GPU's when it comes to ai. I also need at least 16GB of ram for the CPU.

2023.05.28 01:01 Real_Aios_blaise DRS guide "from almost everywhere"
| Hello everyone, I'm here to write a mid tier guide to DRS from almost anywhere. My number one concern are the local barriers that might appear. That's the main reason why am not making a full in-depth guide with pictures and memes. I'll try though. Guide Index: - PayPal
- Wise (TransferWise)
- IBKR (Interactive Brokers, EU)
- DRS & Computershare.
PayPal Step 1 I'll try to keep this brief in order to maintain a readable flow. PayPal is easy to go. Find it through Google search and click on the main page "PayPal.com". There, the top right corner will have the 'Create/open account' link. Follow instructions and come back when your main page is open and ready to go. In the main page, you will want to go to Funding or Fund my account. There, choose to add money to your balance. Follow steps as you see fit to your needs. You should be able to transfer funds from any currency into USD. This last part is important, but as far as I know, that is the purpose of PayPal. Locally, it will just ask for the most common debit cards, but I'm afraid it might be different for every country. I recommend to find a YouTube guide for your specific country. Godspeed everyone. Small note. Operations such as funding might take from a couple hours to 2-3 days. - Especial note. PayPal and Wise can be linked together. Once your wise account is set up, you can come back and add it to your banks accounts in PayPal, so the transfer goes even faster and commissions are reeeally low, like 0.3% or something like that.
Wise Step 2 It's been a while since I'm in the inner workings of Wise, so I might get some bits wrong. But I encourage you to find a YouTube guide to get a more assisted walkthrough to the platform. So, checking in the account it seems like the main steps will be to Sign in to create a new account. Follow the instructions for this. Go for personal use instead of business, since that seems to be the simpler account. Also, use USD as your balance type since PayPal has taken care of that for us. Use your country of residence to be asked for the number that will be set to the 2 security steps and open a balance. This last one will open up the main page of your account. Here is a link for the unable countries at the moment. It might be that everywhere else should be fine. https://wise.com/help/articles/2978049/which-countries-can-i-use-wise-in Main page. Here, open a new balance clicking in the " + " sign. Choose "balance" and go USD. This will open an account in the US. Now let's go back to the main page, and on the left, start looking for 'Manage'. Click on it, and look for account details. Select USD. And it will show you your US account details. Lets use this Info to fund the account. - (Also, you can just use a credit/debit card if that's an option for you)
Just go to PayPal with the details of your new US account. Pay And Receive in the PayPal main page -> Bank accounts and cards -> Associate new bank. Fill in the data. Now all you have to do is sent the funds you want to the account, and Wise will receive them for you. This might take a day to get through. - In any case, If any problem arises, just remember to go to YouTube and look for the main issue. Guides for this operations are everywhere.
Lastly, we will be getting ready to send money to IBKR. - Note; this process will take several days, between 3-5 days to settle, and then you have to wait another day to settle a buy, and then wait 2 days to get the transfer approved. my take on this is, don't be in a rush.
- There's a new link between the IBKR account and the Wise account. Kinda, "in the last month" type of new.
Interactive Brokers EU (IBKR) Step 3 First of all, set up an IBKR account. Just go to the main page, Sign in, and follow the instructions. Once you have your main page up, select "deposit" in the left side of the page. "Trustee" pop-up at your discretion. Set up a new method if asked (It will remember your Wise account!). - Note: I'm in the middle of the guide as I realize that the new feature between IBKR and Wise has streamlined the process. I'll have to adapt to this. Any issues, please remember to search on YouTube.
Ok, so let's pick up where we left. We were in "Deposit" and we will add a new deposit method. Scroll down, and you will find a specific section for wise transfers. Click on it and you'll be greeted with the option to open your Wise account. Give access to IBKR and just add your balance. The commissions will be taken cared of by the platform (which are discreetly low). Follow instructions. And you are done. Really looking back at it, this new feature might even open up the option to look up for more cuts in the way. Maybe PayPal is not needed anymore, since Wise is looking like a strong platform in of it self. Well, you live and you learn. I'll be wrapping this up since its looking a little bit like a wall of text. I'll leave you relieved by this new feature. - Commissions so far would have taken like 2 dollars, and even less with the new feature. Though this is subject to amounts transferred (%)
Direct Registration System (DRS) Final Step From where we left, we will need some shares to transfer. Go to the search bar top-center of the page and type "GME". Select GME, GameStop. Then click on "stock. Go for a buy order and set your quantity in Shares (the other option is dollars). I'm looking without results to use the Investors Exchange routing, but to no avail. Submit your buy order and wait for 2 days, 3 days tops for the buy to settle. It may be just one day. This done, go to Transfers and pay in the main page. select Transfer position. Select "Outgoing". Region will be United States and select " Deliver to transfer agent" or look for DRS in the explanation. Check your GME shares and follow instructions. Your GME shares should be inbound after this operation. - This operation has a $5 USD cost/commission.
- Total cost of Operation should be around 8 dollars subject to amount of the PayPal/Wise transfers.
I'm going to leave you with the DRSGME.ORG guide for a more concise and better formatted guide. But if you want to follow this steps, feel free to do so. https://www.drsgme.org/drs/direct-register-shares-from-interactive-brokers I hope it was of use more than anything. I'm happy to help, and to be here. Best regards to everyone. This doggo is not mine, but its kinda cute isn't it. submitted by Real_Aios_blaise to DRSyourGME [link] [comments] |
2023.05.27 23:12 shogzilla My late 70's HPL story, guest starring the Library of Congress.
This'll take some writin', so bear with me.
I was born in 1970, for context, in Washington, DC. My father was a rare book cataloger at the Library of Congress from before my birth, up through the late 90's.
I was in 3rd grade (or thereabouts, hard to be certain), at a Catholic school in DC. We had a period ('class') called free study, I recall it not being a regularly scheduled thing, but something which happened when a teacher got called away; point is, it was spent in the school library.
It was a good library! I read Ursula K. LeGuin, Asimov, some Heinlein, etc, there, as well as the regular juvenalia (Susan Cooper, Lloyd Alexander, etc).
So, I was there for a free study period. Needing something new to read, I wandered the shelves, and found a Del Rey softcover of HPL stories, including Colour out of Space, Shadow Over Innsmouth, and others. I fell in love with it, best thing since sliced bread.
Within a few weeks, I'd read everything I could get my hands on (I borrowed other books of HPL's from the MLK library; this was way pre helicopter parenting, a 9 or 10 year old could go across town solo by bus without fear). Mentioned a few times was 'The Necronomicon', by one Abdul Alhazred.
Well! I'm the son of a goddamn rare book cataloger at the goddamn Library of Congress! I can do things! (Anyone could; access was free and easy).
So, I walked there (specifically the Jefferson building), 9 blocks or so from my house, and wandered to a small reading room off of the main reading room. There, I used the brand-new COBRA computerized card catalog system to search for 'Necronomicon'. (They really had just instituted the computer system; the card catalog still existed alongside. It was just more convenient.)
Three hits.
1 - An actual (well, photo-facsimile) Egyptian Book of the Dead. Unrelated, skipped.
2 - An 'art portfolio' by one Hans Ruedi Giger - this intrigued me, and I asked a librarian to grab that for me - it arrived, and I loved it, and asked for a copy for Christmas... Which I recall getting. Thanks, mom & dad!
3 - A manuscript, estimated to date around 600 BC (... this was before 'BCE' became a thing), ascribed to author 'Abd Al Azrad'. Well well well.
So, I ask for that third item. About thirty minutes passes, librarian comes back; it's not in the stacks, and he had called up to the rare book room to see if it was in their possession - and it wasn't.
So I asked if there was anything else to be done - and lo, there was; to the physical card catalog we went, to check the card.
The card confirmed what the COBRA entry had listed. Nothing else of note...
Except.
It was either policy or custom at the LoC for catalogers to initial the corner of a card they'd made; I suppose for answerability (there's a better word that escapes me, apologies). And keep in mind, the card catalog date back quite some ways.
The initials on the corner of the card were 'CAS'.
So: my supposition is that Clark Ashton-Smith, contemporary and mentee of HPL, had, in homage, traveled to the LoC, and slipped into the card catalog a spurious card which made the mythology of the Necronomicon 'real' =)
Myster solved, nothing further to see there, I went home. I told my father about this, proud of my use of the COBRA system and the card catalog.
A few years later - in my late teens - I'm collecting Arkham House editions, have a full set of collected letters, etc, and think to ask my father about the fate of that card. He remembered it well - the next day, he'd pulled it from the catalog, and threw it in the trash.
Horrendous? Not from his point of view; an accurate catalog of the Library's contents is almost a religious thing for a librarian; the spurious card amounted to vandalism in his eyes. I couldn't blame him.
So, let's skip forward many years, to when I'm in my forties, he's in his 90's, and I recall the story to him; he remembered, and noted that, in hindsight, it should've been preserved as a piece of memorabilia associated with a renowned American author. C'est la vie.
This story is almost done, but not quite! Let's skip backwards, maybe 20 years.
I was in my early to mid 20's, working in a local hardware store, fresh out of the Navy. An elderly woman comes in, maybe to get some keys made, maybe something else, can't recall the reason. But as I'm assisting her, I think that she looks very familiar, but I can't place my finger on from where. So I ask.
"Pardon me, but I think we've met before. Would you know from where? I can't think of it."
"Well, possibly. Did you go to St. Peter's?"
I said I did, and she said she had been the librarian.
So I tell her how finding that copy of HPL short stories in her library had cemented a love of reading in me.
"Oh yes, I remember that book. When I found it on the shelves, I took it down. I didn't think children should be reading that."
Oh well.
(Pre-edit: this is my first time adding flair to anything, ever. I chose biographical, but it's more my biography than anything else. Story felt wrong, though I'm telling a story, since it's non-fiction. If the flair is wrong, o ye mods, please change it as you see fit, if that's a thing you do.)

2023.05.27 04:10 Southern-Soulshine Prosecuting Murdaugh for the double murder cost taxpayers $264k
Prosecuting Murdaugh for the double murder cost taxpayers $264k By Chris Joseph, WISTV
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Prosecuting Alex Murdaugh wasn’t cheap.
The South Carolina Attorney General’s office confirmed to WIS that it spent $264,316.68 on housing, witnesses, travel, and other materials to successfully prosecute Murdaugh for the double murder of his wife and son.
Taxpayers footed the bill, but a Columbia-area watchdog is calling for Murdaugh and future convicted defendants to pick up the tab for their prosecutions.
Two former Midlands prosecutors strongly oppose the concept.
The costs Columbia-area citizen watchdog John Crangle provided WIS with a spreadsheet of the Attorney General’s costs for the Murdaugh Trial.
The Attorney General’s Office spokesman Robert Kittle verified the spreadsheet.
Kittle declined to comment on the story beyond pointing to the length of the trial (six weeks) and transportation to Colleton County as factors driving cost.
Former 11th Circuit Prosecutor and Current Defense Attorney Jim Huff said a non-death penalty murder trial in South Carolina usually runs three to five days.
He said multiple on-scene witnesses or a case based on circumstantial evidence can drag out a trial.
However, there are times when prosecutors can drag out a trial with “too much evidence.”
“Prosecutors sometimes feel that anybody that touched the case that knew anything, they just got to put everything into the recipe so to speak, to bake a cake. Sometimes they just don’t know when to stop,” he said.
The vast majority of Murdaugh prosecution expenses were for lodging, but the largest single expense went to California-based Park Dietz & Associates.
The state paid the forensic consulting firm $37,840. The spreadsheet describes the expense as “Professional Services and Expenses”.
On its
website, the firm claims to have provided experts who have testified and consulted in “thousands of criminal matters,” including high-profile cases.
Kittle told WIS the firm did not arrange any witnesses but did consult on criminology.
Another $16,100 went to witness Dr. Kenneth Kinsey for consultation and research. Kinsey played a key role in the prosecution’s rebuttal of Murdaugh’s legal defense.
The office spent $171,044.26 at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Walterboro. That included housing for office attorneys, staff, and witnesses, along with various accommodations from mid-January through early March.
Travel costs drove up the price by $22,533.70. They included flights for witnesses, travel reimbursements for staff/witnesses, and the rental of a 2021 Ford Explorer used for 11 days in January.
The largest individual travel reimbursement was provided to prosecutor David Fernandez at $1,764.24 for his time between Jan. 22 and March 3.
JLA Investigations and Security LLC were paid $10,769 for an “expert retainer” and “professional services”. The company specializes in digital forensics.
The remainder of the costs are comprised of miscellaneous items the prosecution bought for the trial. They included posterboard, maps, a book on Bloodstain Pattern Analysis, Gorilla Duct Table, and other items.
The attorney general’s office also indicated which items were reusable and which were not. Only 0.94 percent of the expenses ($2,488.52) went to reusable items.
“A lot of the expenditures are not going to be usable in another prosecution. The witnesses against Murdaugh can’t be used to prosecute John Doe. Right? All the investigative work done that was done by SLED can’t be used to prosecute Jane Roe,” Crangle said.
Murdaugh’s defense attorneys Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin declined requests for comment on this story.
Footing the bill Crangle argues that convicted criminals, such as Murdaugh, should pay the costs of the investigation and prosecution through restitution.
“The taxpayers now are being forced to pay these costs, when the criminal defendants should be required to pay them. Particularly when the criminal defendants have assets that can be attached,” he said.
Crangle conceded defendants often lack resources but said the issue should fall to the judge in the case. He said there could be judgments where the convicted offenders would be required to pay the costs if they obtained the money to do so.
“Some statutory guidelines could be formulated, to give the judge a basis on which to make. Or you could simply trust it to the discretion of the judge to make that determination. But I don’t think it’s difficult in a case like Murdaugh,” he said.
Crangle points to the 2007 case against former South Carolina Treasurer Thomas Ravenel, who was ordered by a federal judge to pay $28,676.31 to the State of South Carolina to compensate it for the legislative session held to replace Ravenel.
Former 5th Circuit prosecutor Brett Perry and Huff both raised concerns about equal protections – a concept enshrined in the U.S. Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause 14th amendment.
Perry disagreed with Crangle’s argument and said the Ravenel case is a different situation.
“It was not a situation where Mr. Ravenel has assessed the cost of the prosecution. Believe that case was in federal court if I’m not mistaken, and I don’t believe Mr. Ravenel was ordered to pay a penny to the federal government, who absorbed the cost of prosecuting him,” he said.
Ravenel did not pay the court for his prosecution but was responsible for a $221,323.69 fine.
Perry also questioned where the line would be drawn.
“If it cost 100 percent of your net worth, to cover the cost of your prosecution, would you take everything someone had in order to do that?” he asked.
Huff also strongly opposed the concept, describing it as unconstitutional. He said prosecutors would begin considering factors other than the crime and its worthiness of prosecution.
“Lady justice isn’t blind anymore. We’re going to look at the resources of the accused. ‘Let’s go prosecute the folks that have money, not because the prosecution merits it, but we can fund our office better,’” he said.
Crangle disagreed with the concept that the rich would face additional punishment.
“I don’t regard it as an additional punishment. I regard it as a every defendant should be required to pay restitution for their wrongdoing, whether you’re judgment proof or not. The question is are you capable of paying it and can it be recovered?” he said.
Huff said Crangle’s concept also presents the opportunity for reverse enforcement.
“By the same token, then if the prosecution loses, they should bare all the cost to the defendant. It’s not a system of justice I would want to be a part of I can tell you that,” Huff said.
Crangle said he wants to see legislation on the issue, but is early in his lobbying efforts.
In the meantime, Murdaugh’s attorneys unsuccessfully attempted to release funds for an appeal of his murder convictions.

2023.05.27 03:48 MundyyyT Cycle Results: CA ORM 3.9+/518 MD/PhD Applicant
My friend
u/frankly___dank told me to make a Sankey, post is flagged as a spoiler so people who are scrolling by and want to preserve their mental health won't see the post unless they click on it. Feel free to DM if you have any MSTP-specific questions and I'll do my best to answer, although I will be trying to limit my Reddit consumption going forward so response times may be extended
I initially intended to pursue a Ph.D. but decided to pursue the dual degree ~1 year prior to applying. Sankey is below:
Secondaries submitted late July - early October, interview invitations extended mid-August - late January (withdrew from all interviews scheduled after New Year) Overall: Happy to have kicked off and continued to live 2023 on a high note.
mdphd and
premed made me concerned that I wouldn't get into an MD-PhD program, so I'm pleasantly surprised I did. The extent of my success (esp. being invited to interview at T30s, T20s, and a T5-10 along with other hard-hitting MSTPs) was also something I didn't expect.
Did I get extremely lucky? I don't doubt it. But I'll try my best not to squander what I've been given.
Self-diagnosed strengths: - High stats -- my mindset going into college was to do as well as I could in class to keep all of my post-graduation doors open, a strategy which (goes without saying) paid off
- I strongly suspect my writing was good. I got a lot of feedback on the clarity and fluidity of my primary essays (personal statement, MD/PhD essay, Significant Research Experience) from non-premed friends & professors who weren't afraid to voice direct but constructive criticism.
- Interviewers & letter-writers (including my PI) indicated my reference letters were extremely strong and painted me in a highly positive light
- My research experience was "productivity dense"; I had relatively few hours (2 school years, 1 full summer, and a few weeks full-time before submitting my primary), but lots of tangibles to show for my time.
- As an aside, I am extremely lucky to have had a PI who prioritized mentorship & a positive professor-student relationship. My PI also pulled strings to get me paid hourly for my research during the school year so I could focus on learning & growing as a scientist while also helping my family pay for my schooling. I'm only now becoming aware of how rare such a setup is for undergraduates.
- During the application cycle, I also got a few abstracts accepted to some non-school-specific meetings and sent in update letters.
- Long-term commitment to a small handful of activities (TAing, research, sport) and being able to write + talk about them enthusiastically
Self-diagnosed weaknesses: - A lot of my secondaries (in hindsight) were submitted pretty late. Some did turn into interviews, but some also didn't
- Low clinical and nonclinical hours, all of which were completed within 12 months of applying. Less of an issue for people applying MD-PhD but likely shut me out of the UCs and schools whose MD committees are the first line of defense for MD-PhD admissions
- Relatively lacking service is likely also why I was waitlisted at UChicago post-interview and didn't get off of it
- Research experience: My hours had substance, but I suspect an even longer track record of productivity & bigger tangibles such as authorship on a publication or winning the Goldwater Scholarship would have given my application even more range.
- <520 MCAT likely didn't help my case at other T10s and T20s I applied to with >=520 medians. It also turned me off from applying to places like JHU, Vanderbilt, Columbia, and NYU as I concluded my application would have little pull there. In hindsight, maybe I should have applied...
- No leadership experience aside from TAing
Miscellaneous & Random: - You really have no idea how things will shake out or what specifically about your application got you in at the schools that liked you. Each school has a mind of its own, and while I like to pretend I have a handle on what went on with my own application, the real answer (that I'll never know) is going to be behind closed doors in the admissions offices
- I tried to keep things conversational in my interviews and didn't try to resume-dump. As someone who likes to talk and type a lot, I'm aware that people like to hear or see themselves, so I also asked my interviewers a lot of questions or bounced off things they said.
- I can't comment on whether my strategy is successful (going back to point 1 -- I have no idea what truly made or broke the deal), but I did turn 4 out of 8 interview invitations into acceptances, so I think my interview skills are at least passable.
- MD-PhD programs (or at least the NIH-funded MSTPs) not discriminating based on state residency made organizing a school list significantly easier. I could just go by GPA & MCAT medians + research and location interests
- With that said, I don't doubt it helps to signal that you have ties to programs and/or their state. All of these are observations:
- It's possible I got invited to interview at all three MD-PhDs in Missouri because I attended college in the state (and in the case of SLU, in the same county)
- A lot of people at my UChicago interview day had ties to Chicago and Illinois in general
- I was one of many WashU students interviewing at WashU's MSTP
- Most of the interviewees at UTSW on my interview day went to a UT (typically UT Austin or Dallas) and/or are from Texas, and a lot of people at my Einstein interview day were from NY and/or attended college in the state
- Penn State's interview day had a lot of people who lived in Pennsylvania and/or went to Penn State
- A good chunk of people at Indiana's interview day attended IU or went to Purdue
- I wrote about my ties to the state of Maryland and it's possible it played a role in UMD's decision to extend an interview
- In the interest of transparency, I will disclose that I went to WashU for college (PI is unaffiliated with the medical school, however) and that may have played a role in my getting accepted to WashU. If you want to interpret these results conservatively, you can assume I otherwise wouldn't have gotten in.
- I don't know how much attending a T20 undergraduate school helps in general with things like this, and I'm aware the jury's still out on the influence of undergraduate selectivity on an application. It's likely a correlation != causation thing since my experience at WashU showed me just how many ridiculously smart classmates I had (and how lucky I am to get into a school like this...again). If you put people who are already extremely ambitious and driven into a resource-rich environment like a T10 or T20 undergrad, it's not surprising when they take full advantage and build a strong profile.
- You can (and will) make friends on the interview trail, especially if you have more than a handful of interviews. MD-PhD is a small world that is (thankfully) full of personable individuals whose interests & hobbies may or may not align with yours
- Every MSTP & MD-PhD program I interviewed at (or was invited to interview at) impressed me in several ways and I would have felt great attending any of the schools I got offered a position at:
- WashU's MSTP probably needs no introduction. One of the largest (if not the largest in the event Penn's class is smaller than usual) and most well-funded MSTPs in the US at a medical school that rakes in NIH money to fund moonshot projects in biomedical research. If you're excited about (or willing to tolerate -- depends on what kind of person you are) St. Louis, this program will pay you a generous stipend relative to COL to come and see what it's all about.
- Another school that I took a particular liking to is Einstein, their MSTP trainee outcomes and program administration are excellent. If you have an interest in working with underserved populations, Einstein's location and mission cater very well to that. The school subsidizes housing that's located very close to the medical school and its facilities and also provides what I consider a very generous stipend ($42,000+/year) to go along with it.
- UT San Antonio's program director, who is also a very well-known SDN user, is extremely dedicated to the success of his students and is always looking to improve the structure and resources his program offers. UTSA's program (STX-MSTP) received an extremely good impact score on their T32 grant renewal. Deservedly so. It's a program that punches well above the medical school's USNews rankings
- I AP'd out of Gen Chem and also didn't take OChem 2, which I thought would pose issues when I applied to medical school. I'm not inclined to believe it introduced drag to my app as most schools list their requirements as being pre-matriculation requirements, and not pre-application. Schools that don't accept AP credit (SLU) also still invited me to interview.

If interested, go to this link. *I am not associated with the connection, and I receive no financial assistance from anyone. *For the remainder of the review, I will refer to these IEMs as "Piccolo." *I am using different Ear-tips for convenience and better versatility. *Finally, I will only evaluate the Piccolo based on their performance, even though I will explain how it feels and seems physically and aesthetically. Specification The third generation LCP diaphragm is used in Piccolo, a single dynamic driver IEM. 11mm dual cavity LCP dynamic driver serves as the driver. Heavy metal, which appears to be stainless steel, is used to make the shells. The shells are of high quality and are quite heavy. A pattern is embossed on the faceplate. I didn't experience any fatigue while wearing the IEMs, and they easily fit inside my ears, though I did need to use different eartips to make it more comfortable. A high purity OCC copper cable with detachable 2-pin 0.78mm QDC type connectors and a straight 3.5mm plug serves as the IEM's cable's termination end.The cable is thin and frequently tangles easily. The cable is also 1.2 metres long. Along with the IEM and cable, the package also includes eartips in various sizes. Technically speaking, the sensitivity is 110dB, and the impedance is 32 Ohms. 20Hz to 20kHz is the range of the frequency response. https://preview.redd.it/g9yo3nvb772b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=768a58c206394bf74fb4784a3bf69d55a1804417 Sound A well-tuned IEM, Piccolo boasts a lot of each region and produces a more refined tuning than a V-shape. While Piccolo is not particularly unique compared to the competition, what it does is actually quite good given the wide range of IEMs available at this price point that may differ in their tuning and specifications. I believe the Piccolo sounds more energising than the Cadenza while being more active in the treble region. IEM like the Kiwi Ears Cadenza share a similar resemblance to how they sound. Its treble and midrange are less energising than those of the Tin Hifi C2, while its bass is more pronounced. In my opinion, compared to other IEMs in this price range, the Piccolo's sound is more immersive and softly presented. The vocals are more forward in the mix, the midrange is more pronounced, and the bass has a strong hold that works well with the mix. The treble on the Piccolo is solid in presentation and has enough energy to bring out the details of the instruments and vocals. Let's investigate the sound more in depth for more information. https://preview.redd.it/p8okfoph772b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8cb6743b0a8a2361d8faafca008375ac85ed35b1 Treble The Piccolo has a soft presentation and a slightly dark treble range, but the energy in this range is strong enough to bring out the subtle details that make the instruments and vocals shine. To maintain a more natural presentation, each note has a good note weight and density. The vocals do not stretch out as much to sound complete or more open sounding as a result of the upper treble being less extensive than any other IEMs in this price range. Although the narrow stage makes it difficult for the instruments to sound detailed, they still stand out in the mix.According to appearances, when compared to other IEMs, the Piccolo sounds less drab and dark, but the Cadenza has less compression in the mix, and the C2 sounds wide and expansive. In the mix, where the vocals and instruments typically sound clean but a little relaxed, the lower treble adds more energy. When compared to the details, the vocals come off as dense and blunt. One thing is certain, though: the instruments back the vocals effortlessly. The instruments are more present and sound more active when the vocals are present. Due to the nature of the tuning, I didn't experience any offensive characteristics. Overall, the treble region is dim, delicate, and close. Mid Range The vocals and instruments have more musicality in the mix, and the midrange is as active and forward in the mix as I had anticipated. The musicality doesn't make it sound smooth or warm; rather, the instruments support the vocals and maintain a constant level of energy. The vocals and instruments sound more forward and energising in the mix when compared to the Cadenza, while the C2 sounds more vibrant and light in the mix.Not that the notes sound unclean, but rather that they sound closed and restrained rather than performing fully.Even though the presentation is not very detailed and tries to become more expressive, the upper mid range sounds clean and energetic while bringing the best out of the vocals and the instruments. The vocals may become a little exhausting to hear because of how close and forward they are presented in the mix, but I didn't find anything offensive in this area. Vocals and instruments sound flat with a drowned effect in the lower mid range, which is dense with good note weight and desirability. Instruments like the bass guitar don't stand out as much because the presentation makes all the instruments sound jumbled and mashed together. The mid range is presented in a strong, energising, and forward manner overall. Bass The Piccolo's bass stands out loud and clear in the mix, having an impact on other responses, particularly the lower midrange. If I had to make a comparison, I'd say the bass sounds more like Shimin Li Encounter Edition's response. Although the quality is lacking in details and texture compared to the Shimin Li Encounter Edition, the bass has a possessive feeling in terms of quantity. The punches are hard enough to keep the engagement going even though the emphasis is on the sub bass and it is extended well, even though it is not as deep as I had anticipated because the rumble sensation doesn't come out sufficiently. Even though the sub bass is given more attention than the mid bass, the mid bass still has a strong presence in the mix and is given more room to breathe. Boomy bass and slams are well-presented, but they lack a more impactful or clear approach. The lower mid range is influenced by the mid bass because it seeps into it and gives it a slightly bloated sound. Although it lacks quality, I believe the bass response is adequate. Although the bass response is punchy, boomy, and slamming overall, it is not of high quality. Technical Performance The Piccolo's technical performance is comparable to that of other products in this price range; to put it simply, in my opinion, some IEMs perform well when compared to similar products, and the opposite is also true. However, when it comes to Piccolo, I'd say that these are an average performer in terms of technical prowess, with a soundstage that is compact but immersive, blunt imanging, and insufficient separation to clearly distinguish every component in the mix. Although the resolution is not unexpected and the ability to retrieve details is nice, the speed of resolvability is still unevenly paced. https://preview.redd.it/qpqjkc8n772b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bf771a86ba2722378eff8fb7d68d14bc28625ebf Soundstage, Sound Imaging & Separation The imaging could have been sharper because the soundstage is small and immersive, placing each component close to your ears. However, the separation is poor because it is difficult to tell apart between notes and crowded sounds. Speed & Resolution The resolution is comparable to what a typical IEM in this price range can deliver; the macro details are clear, but the micro details aren't well explained. The notes attack quickly, but the notes decay with poor closure. Sound Impressions Sources Tempotec V6 - When listening with the V6, the treble is improved, with better details and a sharper edge. As before, the midrange has a forward sound. Although the bass has more texture, the details lack much expression. The only technical change is that the stage feels wider than it did before. I much prefer Piccolo and the V6 together. https://preview.redd.it/wgvnwjrh772b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0562638c160c3d22d4c11d0f6b65f812fc9c55eb iFi Hipdac - When using the Hipdac, it sounds more condensed and less detailed. While the mid range responds with the same energy as before, the treble is tentative. With the mid bass bringing some impact in slams and punches, the bass became more noticeable. The technical performance is unchanged, but the stage is now smaller and the separation is worse. The Hipdac pairing is not worthwhile. https://preview.redd.it/rj7ooirh772b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e59fc23109ff9f3332f44bf095edae40bfb5e27 Tracks Used Luna Haruna - Glory days Luna Haruna - Overfly Rokudenashi - The Flame of Love LMYK - 0 (zero) ORESKABAND - Jitensya Marina Horiuchi - Mizukagami no Sekai RADWIMPS - Suzume Indila - Love Story Indila - Tourner dans le vide Earth, Wind & Fire - September Tom Petty - Free Fallin' Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit Blue Oyester Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper Guns 'N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine The Police - Every Breath You Take Gojira - Amazonia TV on the radio - Wolf Like Me Bring Me To The Horizon - Can You Feel My Heart Bring Me To The Horizon - sTraNgeRs Avril Lavigne - Dare To Love Me Travis - Love Will Come Through Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know DJ Shadows - Six Days (Remix) [feat. Rahman, Javed Ali & Mohit Chauhan - Kun Faya Kun Conclusion This review will conclude by recommending this product to those who value a well-balanced midrange, a strong bass response, and a lack of treble. The Piccolo is a well-balanced IEM that emphasises the midrange and bass to produce the strongest and most powerful performance possible. It is novel to see an IEM tuned to follow this price range. Therefore, I would suggest it to anyone who enjoys organic tones that have a strong bass and forward midrange and don't sound vulgar. IEM users who prefer loud, detailed sounds should exercise caution, but at least give them a shot. https://preview.redd.it/xtr7v0ki772b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b38f493904c52c7a7c5ef6c98429f9aeee54919 submitted by GreenUserper to headphones [link] [comments] |

2023.05.25 23:39 Damned-scoundrel Who is the strongest character the Frankfurt Four (Existential Comics) can defeat?
Link to the comic:
https://existentialcomics.com/comic/257 The Frankfurt Four are a “super-powered” group of four philosophers associated with the German school of critical philosophy known as the Frankfurt School. They appeared on the 257th comic of the webcomic “existential comics”.
The group consists of four philosophers, all of whom are in their 60s & have the intelligence of a typical mid-20th century academic or intellectual. Each member has one unique “super-power”:
- Theodore Adorno: Has the power of “cultural criticism”, which seemingly implies that he is superior to ordinary philosophers at critiquing culture
- Herbert Marcuse: Has the power of “universal reason”, which I’m not quite sure what it is in the context of the philosophy of the Frankfurt School
- Max Horkheimer: Has the power of the negative dialectic, which implies that he cannot accept the identity & it’s concept, & can therefore resist any totalizing system. (Note: I got this definition from a philosophy website online).
- Erich Fromm: Has the ability to self-combust & shoot fire. Fromm’s fire attack was hot enough to completely vaporize Dr. Derrida & his armor, which appeared to be made of some form of metal
Who is the strongest character & or group the Frankfurt Four can defeat?

2023.05.25 22:32 DiseasedCupcake You people make me sick.
A grilled chess consists of only these following items. Chess. Bread with spread (usually bishop). This entire subreddit consist of "melts". Almost every "grilled chess" sandwich i see on here has other items added to it. The fact that this subreddit is called "grilledchess" is nothing short of utter blasphemy. Let me start out by saying I have nothing against melts, I just hate their association with sandwiches that are not grilled chesses. Adding chess to your tuna sandwich? It's called a Tuna melt. Totally different. Want to add bacon and some pretentious bread crumbs with spinach? I don't know what the holy hell you'd call that but it's not a grilled chess. I would be more than willing to wager I've eaten more grilled chesses in my 21 years than any of you had in your entire lives. I have one almost everyday and sometimes more than just one sandwich. Want to personalize your grilled chess? Use a mix of different chesses or use sourdough or en passant bread. But if you want to add some pulled knook and take a picture of it, make your own subreddit entitled "melts" because that is not a fucking grilled chess. I'm not a religious man nor am I anything close to a culinary expert. But as a bland half-Chinese mid-easterm non-binary person, I am honestly the most passionate person when it comes to grilled chesse and mac & chess. All of you foodies stay the hell away from our grilled chesses and stop associating your sandwich melts with them. Yet again, it is utter blasphemy and it rooks me to the core of my pale being. Shit, I stopped lurking after 3 years and made this account for the sole purpose of posting this. I've seen post after post of peoples "grilled chesses" all over reddit and it's been driving me insane. The moment i saw this subreddit this morning I finally snapped. Hell, I may even start my own subreddit just because I know this one exists now.
You god damn heretics. Respect the grilled chess and stop changing it into whatever you like and love it for it what it is. Or make your damn melt sandwich and call it for what it is. A melt.

2023.05.25 21:33 SeriouslyDough282 Gynecologist recommendations in Morris County
Hi there,
Looking to start our family and new to Morris County. Looking for a good gynecologist for when we start the process.
Was given a referral to Morristown Obstetrics & Gynecology Associates but struggled to get through their front desk to make an appointment. (10min on hold and there website was down, was put on hold mid-sentence). Saw they had good reviews but not sure if this will be an ongoing headache with the front desk or a one time thing.
Hoping to find a good doctor recommendation in Randolph area. Input on experiences are helpful here.
Thanks!

2023.05.25 20:58 MGK_2 New Additions To The Leadership Team
| Are we in a Time of a Lull? Could this be the Quiet Before The Storm? Kind of. We can look at it this way. Don't underestimate the sheer magnitude of what is going on here. In fact, a lot is happening. Cyrus always had shareholders informed of his intentions. In the 12/29/22 Webcast, he spelled it out for us: " 9:25: We expect next year, 2023 to be catalyst driven in terms of growth and development for the company and we think that the table is set for a large number of significant developments to occur in early '23, including the submission of our complete response to the partial clinical hold for HIV, new additions to the leadership team, a corporate rebranding, and then following those events, we plan on initiating a NASH trial as well as continuing the advancement of the long acting CCR 5 molecule." In the Pharma Almanac article, Cyrus said, " CA: Steps have been taken to revitalize the leadership of the company. The board has been made fully independent, with board members separate from the company and its day-to-day operations. The organization has also been right-sized, with certain unnecessary leadership positioned eliminated. A couple of new people with specific expertise will be hired to backfill those roles." The previously confidential information of who in fact would eventually replace Scott Kelly CMO was made public in this Press Release yesterday when Melissa Palmer, MD was introduced as interim Chief Medical Officer. In addition, Dr. Salah Kivlighn joins CytoDyn as clinical and strategic advisor. Tanya Urbach Board Chair commented, " Dr. Palmer and Dr. Kivlighn each bring significant experience not only in the oncology and NASH spaces but also in leadership roles with clinical and drug development companies. I believe these two individuals, coupled with Antonio’s strong management abilities, will allow us to not miss a beat during Cyrus’s absence. " Certainly, if CytoDyn was not mandated to release that Press Release, they would not have, because, that PR was slated for after the hold was lifted. But because Cyrus required a leave, it needed to be made within a few days, yet the hold was not lifted. Therefore, they made the announcement and it is two fold. I see it as a warning to shorts, a threat to BP. Is this not a full declaration that CytoDyn is 100% confident in their submittal to the final deciding authority that the hold shall be removed? It is a full declaration that CytoDyn yet remains alive and is assuredly rising back up to life. CytoDyn was previously withholding the news of these new hires to originally be announced following the lift of the hold. However, with the unfortunate circumstance of Cyrus Arman having need to take a medical leave of absence, it would not have been smart to make that mandatory Press Release by itself. It had to be combined with something positive to balance it off and so the announcements of the hires were included with the announcement of the Leave of absence. CytoDyn is not ignoring the call to action. No, in fact, they are heeding it. There are a multitude of indications for Leronlimab, but certainly, CytoDyn's priority is in NASH. Pharma Almanac: " Catching these (NASH) patients at the stage of early fibrosis and halting, attenuating, or potentially reversing it represents a tremendous unmet medical need. Consequently, much clinical development in the NASH space focuses on halting the progression of early fibrotic development. CytoDyn conducted a three-armed, placebo-controlled clinical trial that enrolled 75–80 patients, and the results were very encouraging. We were able to show that, with a 350-mg dose, both the level of fat in the liver and fibrosis are reduced, as measured through surrogate imaging endpoints that are becoming increasingly more accepted by the medical community. The NASH and oncology data sets form the basis of our forward-looking strategy for how CytoDyn will continue to pursue the molecule. We are also developing a longer-acting version of leronlimab with our partners at Oregon Health & Science University. It has been tested in animal models, including rhesus monkeys, and has been shown to remain active inside the body for up to 180 days; treated monkeys are highly resistant to HIV infection, even after repeat challenges on a weekly basis for months. These data are really exciting, and there is no reason this long-acting version cannot also be used for the treatment of solid tumors and NASH." Dr. Melissa Palmer is a Hepatologist with vast experience in treating patients with Liver disease. Dr. Salah Kivlighn shall work with Dr. Palmer in getting the NASH trial underway en route for approval. Remember, NASH is the indication which Cyrus choose that CytoDyn would pursue ourselves, without a partner. However, with now our Merck born Dr. Salah Kivlighn making scientific advisements, some modifications to the original plan might even be planned. Possibly a partnership in NASH could or is in consideration may be in the planning stages. From 12/7/22 R&D Update Slide 23 NASH is a massive market and really, there is no definitive treatment for the disease. Merck is aware of the functionality of Leronlimab in NASH and they may very well be interested in helping CytoDyn get Leronlimab trialed properly for NASH. Melissa Palmer, MD, Hepatologist with extensive experience, has seen the NASH trial CytoDyn conducted and she agrees with Dr. Mazen Noureddin. She agrees with him so much so, she came to CytoDyn to become its CMO. Scientific Advisory Board " 1:32:14: And so we've gone through and knocked out what the potential time lines are across each of the different areas that we presented on today. And as I mentioned before, NASH & Oncology are our priorities. However, because all of this is going to be funding dependent, we're going to focus on NASH initially and WORK WITH CO-DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS TO THE EXTENT THAT WE CAN TO DEVELOP IN ONCOLOGY." This hits home the fact that CytoDyn is strongly in the running and is a contender in the race for NASH. The trial which Dr. Palmer, Dr. Kivlighn and Dr. Noureddin shall set up and run in NASH shall be extensive, well thought out, well run, well documented, well tracked and well documented. It will blow the doors off any other clinical trial in NASH. It won't even require all that many patients to be recruited as we found statistical significance in only 75 patients or so. Certainly, it will be more, but possibly only 150-200 which will definitively & unequivocally prove clinical significance as well as safety. It shall show that no other drug even comes close to the fat and fibrous tissue reduction, thereby making LL the treatment of choice for NASH. Take this as a warning shorts, you would be wise to exit your short position now. Exit and go long. Take this as a warning BP, don't waste your money in clinical trials for NASH, because you won't become standard of care after CytoDyn's NASH trial is complete. Palmer, Kivlighn and Noureddin shall make the results of the coming NASH trial so robust, that the trial shall be even cut short as a result of overwhelming efficacy. Pharma Almanac: " CA: We absolutely believe it has value in other indications. The reason why we’re starting in HIV is twofold: first, our academic collaborators are infectious disease specialists; so they can run those trials very readily and very easily. And two, there is a real demand in the HIV space for longer-acting injectables." Scott Hansen & Jonah Sacha, MD are on top of HIV Prep & CURE and I see Merck wanting in here as well, but that undisclosed 3rd party. From the 4/11/23 Webcast: " 12:56: Additionally, we have also firmly established Dr. Scott Hansen as our Head of Research and Basic Science. Dr. Hansen is currently an Associate Professor at OHSU. and within this newly formalized role, Dr. Hansen will support our clinical development activities, related to biomarker and assay development for future clinical trials, as well as supporting and leading some of our earlier staged efforts, geared towards the development of longer acting molecules targeted to CCR5. 13:33: As a part of those efforts, we have also recently entered into a joint development agreement with a 3rd party Research and Development Bio-Tech company to develop long acting or more longer acting molecule CCR5 blocking. So, in addition to potentially leading to a improved or modified therapeutic, that, we believe that has greater acceptance by those patients and physicians and this could help to yield extended intellectual property section that would increase the underlying value of our patent portfolio." In oncology, Keytruda seems to be in the running to partner with (from the picture above), for what may be Colo-Rectal Cancer in the MicroSatellite Stable population as well as Breast Cancer in the HR+ and HER- and metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer subgroups. Cyrus threw share holders that bone in the BioSpace Article MD Anderson study top line results to be announced. So all our bases are covered. " Leronlimab is currently being trialed in combination with Keytruda (pembrolizumab) in a breast cancer xenograft model in partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center." --- Unfortunately, Cyrus had to go on this leave of absence, but before he left, he made the share holders feel safe. He has successfully backed himself up with a very experienced team of leaders that will take the horse by the reigns and get it over the finish line in record time. I think CytoDyn's enemies have taken notice of how perfectly executed this temporary transition in power was performed. Certainly, Cyrus sought out these individuals, and he made their hire. He accomplished it. Let's see what is going to unfold and what will happen next? submitted by MGK_2 to LeronLimab_Times [link] [comments] |
2023.05.25 19:35 jaysjep2 Jeopardy! recap for Thur., May 25
Today's contestants are: - Megan, a library assistant, handicaps the Oscars;
- Jesse, an accounting director, had a Disney wedding; and
- Ed, a planning technician, has cookie sheets for excess magnets. Ed is a one-day champ with winnings of $7,999.
Jeopardy! COASTAL WATERS // FLAG TERMINOLOGY // UP IN THE AIRLINE // NUMERICAL WORDS & PHRASES // OUR RETURNING CHAMPION // A DOCTOR FROM CHICAGO, ILLINOIS DD1 - $1,000 -
OUR RETURNING CHAMPION - This man had the astronomical luck of being honored twice with a New York ticker tape parade, in 1962 & 1998 (Jesse lost $1,000 from his score of $2,600.)
Scores at first break: Ed $2,200, Jesse $1,600, Megan $600.
Scores going into DJ: Ed $5,600, Jesse $2,800, Megan $3,000.
Double Jeopardy! GALACTIC VACATIONS // SHAKESPEARE & HIS WORLD // EURO COINS // MUSIC OF THE MONTH // POLITICIANS // CROSSWORD CLUES "V" DD2 - $2,000 -
SHAKESPEARE & HIS WORLD - If you were part of this "earthy" group taking in a play at the Globe Theatre, you paid the lowest amount to stand in the pit & watch (Megan dropped $2,000 from her third-place total of $3,400.)
DD3 - $2,000 -
POLITICIANS - He talked about being a Vietnam vet, 5-term senator & Secretary of State in the memoir "Every Day is Extra" (Jesse added $4,000 to his score of $5,600 vs. $9,200 for Ed.
Jesse took a small lead over Ed with a correct response on DD3 and managed to hold it into FJ with $14,800 vs. $12,400 for Ed and $6,200 for Megan.
Final Jeopardy! ASIA - Trained as an engineer, premier Li Peng championed this in 1992; it would ultimately displace over a million people
Everyone was correct on FJ. Jesse added $10,001 to win with $24,801.
Final scores: Ed $14,801, Jesse $24,801, Megan $1,200.
Odds and ends Numerical no-gos: The players didn't get the number associated with the basic income tax form (1040) or the number of the "Get Smart" agent that also means to get rid of someone (86).
FJ wagering strategy: By betting just $1,200, Megan's only chance to win was if both opponents missed FJ and Ed made a big wagering error (which he did not). The percentage play for Megan would have been to go all-in and hope for the best.
Jeopardy! rule book: The acceptance of "Florence" for a clue about the performer with "the Machine" indicates that if the person's first name only is used in the name of a musical group, and the clue wants the name of that performer, just the first name is enough.
Correct Qs: DD1 - Who was Glenn? DD2 - What are groundlings? DD3 - Who is Kerry? FJ - What is Three Gorges Dam?
