2023.05.25 17:43 Lifetimechaldo New 2023 Trek Emonda ALR5 ($2300+tax) or Used 2016 Giant TCR Advanced Sl2 ($1500)
Compare: 2016 Giant TCR Advanced SL 2 vs 2023 Trek Émonda ALR 5 – 99 Spokes Hello folks. About to buy a new bike! Need some help deciding. This Bike will be an upgrade from my Trek 1.2 Claris Bike that was stollen from me a while back.
I have been dead set on the new Emonda ALR5 for a while now, believing that high quality Alloy is usually better than low-grade carbon.
However recently I have found a used high quality carbon bike for sale on fb marketplace that is even a bit cheaper than the Emonda ALR5. The bike in question is the 2016 Giant TCR Advanced SL2. From my understanding the Advanced SL frame is the best carbon fiber Giant makes. The TCR seems a bit better to me overall than the ALR5, the only negative being that its old and has rim brakes instead of disk. However, it looks like it has been EXTREEMLY well maintained by the original owner.
Pros/cons of each:
Emonda - $2300 (+tax) -
Émonda ALR 5 Trek Bikes Pros: Brand new, just redesigned, new 105, internal cable routing, threated BB, high quality AL, sleek
Cons: Not many, other than being significantly heavier that the TCR at 19-20lbs. Alloy wheels. More expensive.
Giant TCR SL - $1500 -
TCR Advanced SL 2 (2016) Giant Bicycles US (giant-bicycles.com) Pros: High quality carbon? Much lighter at 15-16lbs, carbon wheels, love the paint, and cheaper. Looks very clean for a used bike.
Cons: Used, rim breaks, some external cable routing.
Neutral: Ultegra, but the old Ultegra 6800 - probably slightly worse than the 105 R7000; Integrated seat post - I've never ridden an ISP and have no clue about anything about them.
I'm a 56cm in Treks sizing, the TCR is listed as the M/L size. I', 5'11''.
What would you guys say is the better bike? The $1000 difference is pretty significant.

2023.05.25 11:38 Zenithium_ Cheap but damaged turntable. Is it reasonable to buy it then fix it on my own?
Hi. I saw this Technics SL-BD20 selling for 50 eur on my local marketplace website. The seller says it plays fine but there are some things that don't work. I'm pasting the translated description here;
It works and plays, however, it has a known problem with the arm lift, it does not respond to the button and does not lift it. At the end of the record, of course, it returns but remains in the raised position.
Is this somehting someone could fix easily that would justify buying it? What tools/resources would I need if I were to fix it?Ty in advance.
Edit: Here's the listing, contains pics

2023.05.22 14:20 gordriver_berserker What does the consent (GDPR) granted to Vendor mean in practice?
| Our own CMP fetches the current IAB GVL (global vendors lists) and asks the user for permission for each Vendor listed on the GVL. On the other hand, I'm testing CMP from Google (funding choices) and I see that it also downloads the current GVL but only asks for consent for those vendors that I selected in the CMP configuration as 'ad partners'. Configuration of 'ad partners' in Google's CMP is possible in three ways: -select 'Commonly used ad partners', definition: 'We pre-populate the most commonly used ad partners that help show ads on your site or app'; -select 'Custom ad partners', definition: 'We pre-populate the commonly used ad partners for your message, but you can choose to add or remove any ad partners from that list'. There is even no 'select all' option here, I have to manually mark other partners; -choose 'Identify the ad partners that you work with through a cookie scan by Sourcepoint'I have a question regarding granting consent for a specific Vendor when the user interacts with CMP. If the consentstring contains information for the lack of consent, say for vendord Adform, it means that for users subject to the GDPR: - Adform won't be able to buy ads from me for our direct integration?
- Adform will not be able to buy ads from me at all. Even through intermediaries
- are there any other consequences?
If answer 2) is true, shouldn't publishers, in principle, strive to ensure that the CMP they use asks for consent for all possible vendors? https://preview.redd.it/swsx4w74ld1b1.png?width=525&format=png&auto=webp&s=5f6b97e155da58af1baebba1d4f9a14785f3b84b submitted by gordriver_berserker to gdpr [link] [comments] |

2023.05.21 23:47 RosieRew Make mesh avatar for cheap
This is my second time posting this because the SL admin bot blocked it from sending- probably because of all the links
Ok- this took me almost 2 weeks to do for everyone here. I have put together an Avatar for less than $10 so you didn't have to.
Most of the cost will come from joining groups and purchasing a base skin.
There is a Rebirth Mesh head that is 1 L after joining the group (150L) it is called "Kyra"
I could not find eyes for this head so Mesh eyes will be helpful, I have xuxu. mech eyes attached
Next is the Legacy Free body- after joining the group (which I do not recall the price for the group so if someone can comment that I will edit it) The body is free after joining "The Shop" group. The body is tough to shop for clothing wise- but a comment from an admin of the body group says this " As far as mesh goes, the Meshbody Classic wears clothing rigged for the Meshbody Classic, as well as many TMP-rigged items. It will also wear Standard Sized clothing in size M. As always, demo first no matter what! For non-mesh, you can wear Legacy applier clothing as well as BoM/system clothing. So you will need to play around:
The Skin on the picture is a gift ( 1L)as well after joining the Luminous group(150L)
The Velour skin is a NEEDED investment, these skins are being implemented by many skin makers and it will be crucial in any other skin you will want to buy, my favorite is "Rose Kiss" and each skin will cost 299 L
this listed AO is free:
https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Sweets-Free-Sweet-Girl-AO/1755213 I also suggest joining the Truth Hair group ( 265 L) because they have beautiful Gift hairs but that is solely up to you.
Finally I have listed the free custom shape I made for the head and the body:
https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Starbaine-Valurie-Rebirth-Kyra-Shape-Legacy/24826836
Enjoy and I hope this will help you with SL
Update: So guys, I spent hours putting this together, almost 2 whole weeks went into this. Comparing bodies, heads, skins, making the free shape I made, finding extras for beginners like AOs and hairs, etc. I have reasons for everything I posted and I welcome different opinions but PLEASE post the links to them. This was a lot of hard work- none of this was taken lightly. I am feeling a little deflated about this- with all the downvotes and disagreements. I am usually pretty shy in SL. if this really is so bad I will take it all down- I just wanted to give new people a place to begin because I didn't have that when I started. thanks, everyone for their input.

2023.05.20 21:10 Jinoyn Technics SL-1401 repair question.
2023.05.18 22:34 nikalii Recently joined the sport and I have some questions I'd love to have answered.
For some background I got into cycling to due fracturing my lower back from over training through running ( I was at 2:33 fitness at the full marathon at the time.) I got recomended rowing or cycling by my physio, I tried rowing on an erg in a gym and hated life. I went and got a Giant defy 3 off ebay for £220 and went for a cycle in the sun, minus the newbie aches and rubs, it was stunning. The feeling of gunning it at 20-24mph on flats was awesome.
So I think even once I come back to running cycling will always be something I look to do aswell (maybe even dip my toe into full Ironmans). I love the idea of cycle touring aswell, as a relaxing holiday sounds a bit to relaxing for me, but cycling from town to town in Europe sounds amazing.
So coming from a sport where I own a fair few super shoes and love how they make running even more of a joy, with different brands having that different way of making you faster.
I'm looking to get a bike around the £2000 mark highly likely used, I could go new and look around the £4000ish range on credit.
My eye's been drawing to the Canyon Aeroad SL and X varient. I've been talking to someone on FB marketplace about a 2016 SLX they have with di2 set. Would I be in a good place snagging this for just under 2k or would I be better off getting a mordern variant with brake discs but the SL instead of the SLX?
I've also seen that the Boardman SLR 9.4 seems to be a great buy with some having electronic gears for around 1500 used I've spotted, would this be an avenue worth exploring? I'm far from tied to the Canyon brand.
Also if there are any other bikes that people feel fall into a similar slot please let me know. I tend to learn towards performance orientanted shoes so I assume I'd do the same with bikes. I work around the niggles through working out, yoga or whatever, but I have the mindset of wanting that little bit more performance.
Thank you for taking the time to read and I appriciate any comments/insight.

2023.05.08 19:01 Oshojabe Spells with superior lower level alternatives
I was building a wizard recently, and I was struck by how many spells have superior alternatives, often of lower level. There are sometimes trade-offs, or ways in which one spell doesn't 100% replicate the utility of its higher level alternative, but I wanted to document a few instances I'm aware of:
- Mighty Fortress: An 8th level spell, that lets you make a large formidable fortress for 7 days and a cost of 500 gp. For 26,000 gp spent over a year, you can make the fortress permanent. Ignoring that the DMG says you can build a mundane fortified tower or fort for 15,000 gp and 100 days of work (a fraction of the time and cost), the spells Galder's Tower and Wall of Stone provide excellent lower level alternatives. Galder's Tower (3rd Level) makes a 2-story (+1 story/SL) tower, which lasts 24 hours, and can be made permanent if cast on the same spot for a year. The other alternative, Wall of Stone (5th Level), let's you place ten 10'x10' panels in any arrangement on existing stone, and it becomes permanent after 10 minutes. You could make a modest tower over the course of a few days at level 9.
- Arcane Eye: This 4th level spell is outclassed by the 2nd level spell Flock of Familiars. The main downside of Flock of Familiars is that the familiars are not invisible, and that instead of the 3 mile range of Arcane Eye, the familiars can only send data back in a 1 mile range.
- Animate Objects: This 5th level spell is somewhat outclassed by the 3rd level Tiny Servant, when comparing the 10 tiny Animated Objects option (which is the best combat option.) Animated Objects last for 1 minute, and takes concentration, while Tiny Servant lasts 8 hours and doesn't take concentration. An upcast 5th level Tiny Servant gives you half as many servants as animated objects, but if you were planning to cast Animate Objects twice, you're probably better off casting Tiny Servants twice instead and having 10 little guys for 8 hours, instead of 10 over 2 minutes.
Are you guys aware of any other cases like the above?

Giant TCR SL - $1800 (could prob talk it down to $1500ish) -
TCR Advanced SL 2 (2016) Giant Bicycles US (giant-bicycles.com)
Pros: High quality carbon? Much lighter at 15-16lbs, carbon wheels, love the paint, cheaper. Looks very clean for a used bike.

2023.04.28 06:41 uncleblizzard Help! Just bought a vintage Technics SL-D3. Now I need advice on… everything
| Hey everyone. Very new to the world of upgrading my setup beyond a Crosley combo player. I found this Technics SL-D3 for $60 on Facebook Marketplace locally so I jumped on it. The good news: it works! It powers on and the start/stop mechanism is functional. The bad news: it’s very dirty and corroded, the dust cover hinges are broken, and I know I need to replace the cartridge. Any suggestions on how to clean it up and get it into the best shape possible? I also need advice on the best value for a cartridge, and an entire output system (pre-amp/amp/receivespeakers). What are some pieces of equipment to look out for to buy vintage/used? Anything cheap to buy new that would sound halfway decent? I would describe my budget as close to nonexistent at the moment, but what should I look for or save up for? Thank you. I’m sorry if I get any terminology wrong, like I said, I’m extremely new to this. submitted by uncleblizzard to turntables [link] [comments] |
